Food, Glorious Food!!

Hi Everyone,

A few people suggested centre my next blog post around what ruby eats. A lot of people ask me, so I thought it would be nice to pop it all together and maybe it could help someone.

Ruby has been through a lot regarding allergies and her food. Since going to a holistic vet based over in Leeds called Balanced being (now closed down, so we use Towerwood vets in Leeds) her allergies have been the best they have ever been. We tried so much before seeking alternative treatments, and now I will never look back.

She is fed on a completely raw diet which includes duck, venison, fish and rabbit. We found out through keeping her food very clean that she has allergies to chicken, turkey and lamb. We first started out on natures menu frozen nuggets from Hapton Animal Feeds. Then we started trying different meats and frozen food from Raw Feeding Lancs. We now feed a variety of them both.

Hapton Animal Feeds is a wonderful family run pet shop. They have really helped me since I set up and I am eternally grateful!

Raw Feeding Lancs is again amazing. A huge variety of raw food and supplements. The staff are incredibly knowledgeable and Kieron (Owner) is always willing to help with any questions and advice.

After doing so much research for myself about what goes into processed dog food I could never turn back. After a few months being on raw food it was so nice to see ruby itch free!

All I say to people is try to think outside the box. Just turn your dog food packets round and look at exactly what is on the ingredients list, you may be shocked! I know I was! I could not believe the additives, preservatives and meat content of the actual food!

As for treats she has a wide variety! We just needed to find ones that contained just the meat she could eat and vegetables. It really hasn't been an easy road but one definitely worth taking.

Last but not least supplements. I use a wide variety or herbs and supplements for Ruby. On a daily basis she has Probiotic from Phytopet, Easy-green from Dorwest Herbs, a high quality fish oil and Billy No Mates from CSJ.

I can't praise the Billy No Mates power enough. It is a natural mix of herbs to repel fleas, ticks and mites. I personally will not give ruby flea or worming tablets unless needed i.e she gets them. I really do not like using them unless necessary and I can wholeheartedly say this powder has been a god send. Ever since starting 1 year ago I have never seen a flea or tick on her.

I can only hope that sharing my experience can help someone else out there. I hope you have enjoyed the latest blog post and any ideas for next months, then just shout!

If anyone wants any advice please feel free to message me, I will try my best to help.
